Waverly and I decided to take a break from the harsh city grind of St. Gallen life and head over to the Swiss fair, OLMA, an exhibition of the country's finest cheese, wine, meats and crafts.
And what country fair would be complete without a pig race?
Here are the prized thoroughbreds prepping up for the big competition:
Here they are busting out of the gate:
at the finish line:
and the losing pig being tortured by little kids:
The rest of OLMA was filled with lots of cheese tasting, asking locals who didn't speak English if I could mail cheese and meat to the US (I still don't really know), and checking out the local livestock.

a day full of cheese sampling.
oink! oink!
You can make cheese to the US - I do not know whether your supposed to do it but you can.
I got french cheese by mail (brie and camenbert, the good stuff, from raw milk). The first time it was really good. The second packet took a bit too long - Man that was stinky. Just on cheese was still eatable, but that one was delicious! (I had to keep in in the backyard .. )
Actually, you are not allowed to bring products from raw meet, or raw milk soft cheese into the US. Rule of thumb: if it is tasty, it is probably not legal.
All the "bet" for the losing pig....lost?
