I am very excited about our Italian excursion this weekend. We will be going to Venice on Saturday, Pisa (just to get a picture of us holding up the leaning tower) and Florence on Monday, and coming back to Switzerland on Wednesday.
After being on expedia.com, kayak.com, sidestep.com, venere.com, and booking.com for what seemed like 100 hours, I was finally able to find 2 decent hotels in Venice and Florence for a good price. The hotel in Venice is on Murano island, a 10 minute boat ride from the main city of Venice. Reviews raved about this place and how pleasant and convenient the ride back and forth was. In Florence, we're staying at a place close to the train station and near the city center (it seems Florence is pretty small so it should be convenient).
I'm most looking forward to Venice, with its canals and old city streets. It's supposed to be great weather this weekend and I can only hope Waverly doesn't make me take a Gondola ride which I am told costs upwards of 70 euro. Can you say tourist trap?

You must take me on the Gondola ride!!!
I was going to say, you must take Waverly to a Gondola ride! It's a tourist trap MUST.
I got too sick in a bopping and rocking gondola!
Okay, okay... hopefully I can bargain them down from a ridiculous 70 euro to a less ridiculous 50-60 euro.
Venice is nice, forget Italian food, stuff yourself with Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai as they are cheap and available in Venice. We were in Morano to buy glass artwork. The water taxi was fun, make sure you get daily passes or you can walk over numerous bridges!
Italian food is the best! Don't eat asian food in italy, that would be so sad. (Unfortunately there are a lot of bad tourist restaurants in Venice .. pizza is a safe bet. Real pizza, not the pizza hut stuff)
Venice is fun, just great for taking pictures! It is sinking, so better visit it while you still can.
Drink some wine, it is much cheaper, and I think better then in the US.
You took 100 hours in research for your Italy trip. I deserve to get your respect for the time that I spent and the hard work that I did for setting up our 15 days, 14 nights European trip. Isn't it?
Yes you do...thank you for the hard work.
